I write for magazines and newspapers. I also take photographs to accompany articles. Usually I write about horses and art but I also do promotion, publicity and web text. Common article subjects for me are interviews with high profile figures in the horse world, art, equine medical issues, competition reports, travel, horse sports. The sports I write about are often those I do: eventing, polo, horse training.

Though I often work with other photographers, I take many photos. This shot was part of a group for an American QuarterHorse Journal article. All my photos are available as stock photos or numbered/signed prints on archival papers.
I was invited to the preview exhibit of Degas' sculptures at Meijer Gardens and Outdoor Sculpture Park. This complete collection of bronze sculptures on exhibit (June-August) is only one of 4 complete sets of AA. Hebrard bronze castings in the world. It was a fantastic sight. Here is a small gallery of photos from that shoot.
Horses were a Degas obsession. They represent 17 of the 73-piece bronze collection now on exhibit at Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids. If you'd like an article/photos on these figures inspired by Longchamp Races in Paris, please email me.
This article was the cover story for Summer 2000 Equine Images, an award-winning publication of The Bloodhorse.. The American Horse, sculpted by Nina Akamu, was a $6 million project begun in the 15th century in Milan, Italy. It was ultimately finished through the $2.5 gift from the Frederik Meijer Gardens. The story is mine, not the photos.

This photo from the Colonial Zone in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, was seen by thousands of visitors attending the Pan Am Games in August, 2003. The horse facility, 20 kilometers north of the city center, was beautifully designed but not quite finished on July 1st for Games that began on August l. Could the hardworking Dominicans complete it in time for the dressage and jumping? This was a lead story for the August 1 issue, The Chronicle of the Horse, a story nominated for Best Feature of 2003. The story and photos are mine.
The Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park was slated to be a Meijer's Thrifty Acres but Fred and Lena Meijer decided instead to create a botanical and sculptural Garden unequalled in the United States. About ten percent of the sculptures depict horses and many of them reflect the personal history of the Meijers. The Michigan Thoroughbred March 2003. The story and photos are mine. |

Sculpture parks are designed all over the world now to offset urban decay and modify suburban sprawl. They offer exquisite and imaginative sculpture accessible in man-made, verdant meadows and woods. For one such opening, I interviewed a number of reknowned sculptors including Claes Oldenburg, Arnoldo Pomodoro and Mark di Suvero for Sculpture Magazine, December 2002 and also photographed pieces such as Manuel Neri's Odalisque IV |
